Regional High School Programs 

In addition to the academic and artistic offerings at Dinwiddie High School, the division participates in several regional programs that offer learning and artistic experiences for Dinwiddie County students. The programs our division participates in are listed as follows:

GOVERNOR’S SCHOOLS

Interested 8th grade students and their parents can learn more about the governor schools by contacting the Middle School Guidance Department and by visiting the websites for these schools. 

The online application link is  https://applygovschool.schoolmint.com and will open October 1st. 

Appomattox Regional Governor’s School 

The Appomattox Regional Governor’s School for the Arts and Technology provides students a differentiated and rigorous education, cultivates a supportive environment that inspires unique artistic and technological visions, promotes cultural tolerance, nurtures community partnerships, and produces active, engaged citizens.

Current eighth grade students (rising 9th graders) who are legal residents of Dinwiddie County are eligible to apply. 

Applicants must be enrolled in Algebra I or higher-level mathematics when they apply, and they will be required to have successfully completed Algebra I for high school credit prior to enrollment.  It is highly recommended that students have completed or are currently enrolled in the following:

  • Art, Dance, and/or Music (in school or privately) depending on focus area
  • Basic Computer Science
  • Earth Science
  • International Language

Applicants should have at least a B average for the seventh grade. If a student does not have a B average for the seventh grade, he or she may apply due to special circumstances.  For consideration, the student must provide a separate letter of explanation with the application form.

Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School

Eighth grade students who reside in Dinwiddie County and meet a set of academic criteria may apply for admission to Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School (MLWGS) for Government and International Studies. MLWGS is an innovative public high school offering a comprehensive college preparatory program emphasizing government, international studies, science, mathematics, languages, and fine arts. 

Students are selected on a competitive basis through an application process beginning in October.  Students who meet the following criteria are eligible to apply:

  1. Students must be enrolled in Algebra I or higher-level mathematics course for high school credit when they apply.
  2. Students must have a B average for the 7th-grade year. Students who do not have a B average, but would like to be considered as an applicant due to special circumstances, must provide a letter of explanation.

CodeRVA

CodeRVA is an innovative, regional public high school in central Virginia focused on preparing students for college and careers in computer science and coding.

Current eighth grade students (rising 9th graders) who are legal residents of Dinwiddie County are eligible to apply. CodeRVA applicants should have an interest in and passion for the study of computer science. There are no academic requirements to apply for CodeRVA Regional High School.
