Students Win at 1st Annual Tri-Cities Regional STEAM Fair

The 1st annual Tri-Cities Regional STEAM Fair was held on March 3, 2020, at Virginia State University in Petersburg, Virginia.  Area high schools with only one high school for their district competed in multiple events that fall under STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Music).  Students from middle and high schools of Dinwiddie, Petersburg, Prince George, Hopewell, Charles City and Colonial Heights competed in this competition.

Dinwiddie High School students participated in Engineering Design, Rap Battle and Career Cluster.  The Engineering Design team of four (Christopher Parham, Logan Henley, Ryan Wood, and Desmond Green) had to create a contraption to pick up an egg and move it a certain distance.  Our Engineering Design team placed 1st!

The Rap Battle competition consisted of a rap about the community. Ian Mizelle participated and won 2nd place.

At the middle school level Dinwiddie had two winners in the Career Cluster event.  Each participant had to create a detailed poster with information about a STEAM career of their choice and present.  Jordan Mayes  won 1st place with her chosen career as agriculture and Imani McLaughlin came in 2nd place!
